Oh, Amanda, thank you for sharing your relationship with your mother and your daughter so honestly!

My parents are both really excited to be having a grandbaby nearby, and I’m interested to see how my relationship with my mom develops. We’re already pretty great friends, although the “mom” comes through every once in a while. I was talking with her on the phone yesterday about taxes (so, yes, a “mom” question) and she said, “It sounds like you have it all under control. I’d be glad to look at the form to answer your question, but I think you’re doing great!” Wow, 28 years old and the praise made my buttons burst! :)

I like that you let Annabelle fuss a little bit at the party; too many parents tend to “helicopter” in…and I think you’re doing a fantastic job!

I loved your story. I know you to be a wonderful Mom and Annabelle is so lucky to have you to help her grow up to be as wonderful as you.

Thanks for taking the time ready my essay!! I really wanted to be honest in my article. It is something where I have good days and bad days in that arena.

Melissa, I think if your mom is cool now she will probably be cool later. My mom-in-law has always been cool. And I agree the praise from a mom is great no matter how old we are.

Trina, thanks for kind words! I am so happy that you are a few months ahead of me. I love all your advice! :)

Wonderful heart-felt essay Amanda. Thanks for sharing! A lot of us see things that our moms do that make us think, “Wow, I’m going to have to be really careful” because we know that those attitudes we have dealt with as children will surface in our own lives as adults. I’m sure you will do a wonderful job w/ Ace b/c you have recognized, early on, what your mom does that is not healthy and are taking steps to avoid it.

Bravo on the honesty, Amanda… makes me wonder if your mom ever reads what you post over here at TMC!

It is unbeLIEVable how much I have learned about myself after having kids… and most of it is stuff I saw modeled for me when I was growing up. I think a long time and a LOT of practice to not carry on the negatives with my own kids.

I loved your essay. I have seen you with Annabelle, and I think you are doing an excellent job. I will pray for you and your mother that one day she will see how great a job you truly are doing.
